Senator Vincent Hughes was proud to announce over $5.9M in Low Income Housing Tax Credits for 4 rental housing projects in the 7th district. In total the projects will bring 163 affordable rental units, with 39 of those units being accessible units, a major win for low-income renters throughout the district.

These tax credits bring the total neighborhood investment Senator Hughes has announced to over $75M.

“Affordable housing continues to be a fundamental need in communities across Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.”

“These tax credits will allow us to provide more housing to renters and ensure our neighborhoods remain accessible to the folks who have lived there for decades. We must continue to make affordable housing a priority to enable more opportunity and upward progress in our neighborhoods.”

Affordable Housing Funding

Affordable housing continues to be a major priority for Senator Hughes as he advocates for state investments and support as Democratic Appropriations Chair.

In 2022, Senator Hughes and other Senate Democrats advocated for $65 million in PHARE funds in addition to other budget increases for affordable housing investments. Their advocacy resulted in the largest increase in affordable housing investments in Pennsylvania’s history.

Just last week, Senator Hughes was proud to share that PHARE funding will be increased to $70M in the FY24-25 budget and continue to increase to up to $100M by FY27-28.

“Pennsylvania has the resources to continue moving affordable housing forward in a major way. We were proud to secure increases for affordable housing in the FY24-25 budget but we also stay ready to fight for more to provide more high quality, safe, and accessible affordable housing in our neighborhoods.”
